DELTADUCT ®

The project is a spin-off
from the discussion to deliberately flood "inter-river" areas. We abolish
all solid infrastructure within the delta, to reestablish the wildlife
zone. Main infrastructural lines remain, but will be rebuilt elevated.
This new hybrid inbetween the bridge, house, harbour, and the "dam" is
called DELTADUCT.
The whole project is
a spin-off from the discussion to deliberately flood some "inter-river"
areas, instead of "artificial" and increasing maintainance of
the dykes. The idea of returning to the "natural" state and
de-organisation is appealing, but has to be appplied consequently.
Therefore we propose to make a FULLY WILDLIFE DELTA.
Within it we introduce two zones of the "riet-heliofiten" filters,
that would purify the water before getting into the North Sea. First filter
zone at the beginning of the delta ensures the water cleansing for the
wildlife species.
This process develops over a period of time. The existing man-made landscape
articulation gradually loses it's asphalt roads to swampy areas , fish
farms, wild strawberry fields, canoe cabins and bird-watchers paradise.
Overlapping of the old landscape and the landscape in making, makes this
a specific place to begin a journey. The journey starts when you step
out of the car at the beach slope, walk over the Deltaduct 2 and slip
into the new wildlife.
Any type of habitation
within the Delta demands the infrastructure to get to it. We propose the
abolition of all solid infrastructure within the delta realm, to reestablish
the wildlife zone.
Only the main infrastructural lines connecting Randstad to the rest of
Europe will remain, but will be rebuilt elevated from the wet natural
grounds below. THIS HYBRID INBETWEEN THE BRIDGE, HOUSE, HARBOUR, CIVIL
WORKS, TRAIN STATION AND THE "DAM" IS CALLED DELTADUCT ®
All future habitations are to be placed within the D-ducts.
There are three main
types of DELTADUCTS depending on their level of interactivity and their
position within the delta.
Being located at the traffic interface inbetween the Randstad and major
western europen cities, together with the condition of living in the wildlife
makes this a perfect location for housing.
DELTADUCT 1 / 200 km/h(sea-business)
is placed near the sea. Floating above bigger islands and the "sweet-and-salty"
waters. It acts as the traffic sign for the big boats denouncing the water
levels (like the lighthouse).
It has no direct physical contact with the delta. D-duct 1 is interacting
with the delta only visually. Houses parasite on the view and the immediate
connection to work-places. That is a perfect position to have a business
meeting or a conference. It's quick. It is made from kevlar: a light strong
technically advanced material. From the Dduct itself there is only alternating
visual connection to the amazing big views.It becomes also the shiny finish
line for the sail competitions.
DELTADUCT 2 / 40 km/h
(swamp-nature) is placed in the swampy wildlife wetlands. D-duct 2 is
highly interactive, sometimes merging its slopes with the delta itself.
The exact form of infrastructure merges with the beach at it's slopes
and sometimes, it's flooded. This slow spine goes up and down directly
aproaching the water level, where your boat lies. That is also where most
nature freaks set-off for drifting into the delta. Houses there get a
direct acess to the wildlife, while being connected to efficient traffic
routes.They sometimes lay in the water and sometimes just above it. Fish
farming is a popular activity there. It's also famous for it's fish restaurants.The
speed is slow. It's made from concrete, sand, wood and riet . Some parts
fall off, and the other emerge.
It's like an animal.
DELTADUCT 3/ 100 km/h (wet/dry- recreation) is placed at the beginning
of the delta. The differences between high and low (dry ) condition are
most extreme. That is where recreational sailors meet in water bars, and
where you swim in a pool above the wildlife delta. Disco opens at night.
In summer there are also strawberries available. Houses form clusters
under and above the driving route. Interaction with the delta is always
through an intermediate space both being connected up and down, like the
transferiums from car/train to the Delta Ferry/ recreational boat. The
speed is moderate. Material is steel and concrete, partly prefab.
