MANGtown
The chosen site is located in a Mangrove zone that has perfect features to the development of the Amphibious Living subject. The Mangrove is a seaside ecosystem that is formed near the rivers estuaries by the interaction of sea water and continental water. It has a salty, swampy soil, rich in nutrients, that provides the development of market value species like shrimp, small lobsters, molluscs and fishes. The Mangrove is composed by a dense vegetation with big curved roots or perpendiculars roots to the ground. This system has very strong influence of the tides and the floods. That makes the soil sometimes flooded sometimes soggy, making a mutant limit between land and water. Therefore, we applied a right occupation strategy to deal with the landscape without destroying the environment. A hybrid system. Infiltration > > using fingers and platforms raised on "pilotis", we can occupy the area with minimum damage for the vegetation and the soil. So the vegetation can grow and the water can easily flow under the buildings. This system also protects the constructions against the hazard of flood and mix them with the landscape like urban infiltration in the rain forest [pic. 1 and 3] Infrastructures >
> 4 scales of circulating structures had been created to allow the
access, the flux among the houses and the inbound of the urban infrastructures:
Amphibious platforms
> > on each raised platform, the houses are grouped in 3 to reduce
the number of pillars and as a consequence the environmental impact in
the Mangrove is decreased. The idea of individual plot is left away. The
platforms are raised on "pilotis" and torn by holes, allowing
the development of the mangrove under them. These holes also create a
neighbourhood relationship[pic. 4]. Dwelling > > a
container house with services modules, infrastructures and the panels
as plug-ins, creating a flexible housing system. Totally mountable, the
dwelling can receive different kinds of material according to the necessity
of the inhabitant. And it also can grow from 36 m2 (2 structural modules)
up to 90 m2 (5 structural modules). Thus that flexible system answers
to a varied demand of inhabitants profiles [pic. 5 and 6]. Foundation and superstructure > > the foundations are industrial props of concrete. The superstructures are also industrial pieces assembled by parts and later plugged to the foundation. This is a flexible solution to apply to the variable system of land and water of the Mangrove. |
